A propagation technique for native tundra bryophytes for Arctic ecosystem restoration

Extreme environmental conditions and limited understanding of ecosystem processes community dynamics pose significant challenges for Arctic restoration activities. As pioneer species, bryophytes are critical to the function structure northern ecosystems play an important role in facilitating soil microhabitat development. A total 11 species were collected from a mixed near Lac de Gras Northwest Territories, Canada, 12 week laboratory study was conducted. Three propagule types (large = 2.1–40 mm, medium 1.0–2 small <1 mm phyllids) three slurries (distilled water, beer, buttermilk) used determine effective bryophyte propagation techniques introduction sites.
